State Street; 11400 So. to 10600 So. Construction Notification

Construction activity is planned to begin as early as mid-March with an anticipated completion by early fall. The purpose of this project is to address current congestion and safety concerns as well as update utilities beneath State Street. Planned improvements:

  • Update utilities along this corridor 
  • Improve intersections from 11400 South to 10600 South, including areas of extended median barrier
  • Install sections of sidewalk and curb and gutter
  • Restripe the roadway to six lanes
  • Resurface asphalt from 11400 South to 10600 South, extending the life of the roadway

The construction schedule includes day time work, night work with lane restrictions, and weekend work as needed. Utility work, including light, gas, power and storm drain, will begin on the east side of State Street and transition to the west side by mid-July. Sandy City will also begin work on a separate utility project at the intersection of State Street and 10600 South beginning mid-March and lasting approximately 4-5 weeks. 

9000 South; State St. to 700 East Construction Notification

As part of the 9000 South project to widen between State Street and 700 East, UDOT and Sandy City are partnering to provide improvements to the 300 East and 9000 South intersection. Concerns were raised by residents over the school crossing and the following improvements will be implemented as part of the project to provide a safer crossing for school children: 

  • Additional crossing guards will be provided to cover the north-south and east-west directions at the intersection
  • The crossing guards will remain at the crosswalk for extended hours for elementary and middle school students
  • The project team will coordinate with UDOT traffic to adjust the signal timing to be extended during school crossing hours
  • Flashing LED lights will be added to the school signs to provide advanced warning to drivers
  • Protected left-turn movements (green arrows) will be added to the signal during school crossing times

The project team has also designed a ten-foot Ski Connect Multi-purpose trail alignment to avoid impacting as much landscaping as possible and adjusted raised median/turn lane lengths to better manage traffic flow on the corridor.
