Public Works – A Dozen Quick Tips:

TREE TRIMMING: For the safety of pedestrians and motorists, if the trees or vegetation at your house have branches that hang over the sidewalk or street, they need to be trimmed to a height of 14 ft. above the curb and 8 ft. above the sidewalk.   

DUMPSTERS: If you have a large project at your home and you need to dispose of materials, reserve a dumpster on the Public Works webpage and you can have it delivered to your home for up to 72 hours.

POTHOLES: If you see a problem on the roadway such as a pothole or road debris, please contact Public Works at 801-568-2999 or use your CityServe app so we can quickly resolve the issue.

REPLACEMENT CANS: If either your waste or recycling container is damaged or has a broken wheel, it can be repaired or replaced free of charge. Contact Public Works at 801-568-2999 to report the problem. 

ADDITIONAL WASTE CONTAINER: If you would like an additional waste container or recycle bin at your residence, contact Sandy City Utility Billing at 801-568-7110 to order the can.  

ACCEPTABLE RECYCLING: Approximately 20% of the items placed in curbside recycling bins are non-recyclable.  If you have questions and you want to see what is acceptable, visit 

PLASTIC BAGS: Plastic bags and clear wrap are unaccepted items for the curbside recycling bin since they can damage automated recycling equipment.  Return the bags to your local retail store.

CLEAN RECYCLABLES: Recyclables placed in your curbside bin should be empty and clean.

DON’T BAG RECYCLABLES: Do not bag your recyclable items before you place them in your curbside bin.

PAPER SHREDS: Shredded paper is not an accepted item in your curbside recycling bin.

DIFFICULT RECYCLABLES: Have a hard to recycle item?  Visit or 

BULK WASTE COLLECTION: For spring/fall bulk waste collection, place your waste curbside no sooner than the weekend before your collection date.  Do not put waste against a fence, tree or utility box. We do not accept rocks, concrete, gravel, dirt, sod, construction debris such as shingles, glass, sheetrock, or items considered hazardous.
