Sandy City resident, Davis Smith, recently became the first Utahn to be admitted to President Bill Clinton’s and President George W. Bush’s Presidential Leadership Scholars program. Over the course of the year, Scholars will travel to each participating presidential center to learn from former presidents, key former administration officials, and leading academics. They will study and put into practice varying approaches to leadership, develop a network of peers, and exchange ideas with mentors and others who can help them make an impact in their communities.
Davis is the founder and CEO of Cotopaxi, an outdoor gear brand with a humanitarian mission. He is a member of the United Nations Foundation’s “Global Entrepreneurs Council” and was Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s “CEO of the Year” in 2016. He previously co-founded Baby.com.br, Brazil’s “Startup of the Year” in 2012. Davis holds an MBA from the Wharton School, an MA from the University of Pennsylvania, and a BA from BYU. Davis is an adventurer who has floated down the Amazon on a self-made raft, kayaked from Cuba to Florida, and explored North Korea.
