"Jam On It" is a Slam Dunk for Sandy

Sandy was pleased to welcome Jam On It as host of the Big Mountain Jam, the largest basketball tournament in Utah history. Held at the South Towne Expo Center from June 30 through July 2, it shattered records with impressive numbers, proving Sandy is becoming a top sports destination for youth athletics.

Entering its 6th year, Jam On It provides an “all under one roof” premiere basketball tournament drawing more than 610 amateur teams from Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington and Utah.

The economic benefit to Sandy City is clear:

36 full-sized basketball courts under on roof +

12,000 youth basketball players, both boys and girls +

9,000 spectators +

1,100 games +

3 days of tournaments =

4.6 million dollars of economic benefit

It’s no surprise that cities are aggressively competing to attract tournaments of this size to capture the economic impact of this new “Sportscation” trend. Research shows that families will spend an average of $300 per weekend when traveling with their children’s youth sports teams. In addition, 27% of all trips made in the U.S. relate to attending a sporting event of some kind, from professional and college games to youth and amateur sporting events.

From professional soccer with REAL Salt Lake to youth tournaments such as the Big Mountain Jam and from our comprehensive recreation sports program and our many outdoor events, Sandy City is becoming a destination for sports and outdoor enthusiasts from around the state and country—ultimately benefitting our residents with greater sales tax revenue and decreased tax burden. Truly a win/win!
